Why choose a softcover brochure?

Softcover binding combines a flexible cover with a high-quality, book-like appearance and is suitable for a wide variety of content.

Flexible handling

The wraparound cover protects the inner section whilst also ensuring it is comfortable to handle.

Also suitable for narrow backs

Using PUR adhesive binding, we can produce softcover books with a spine width of around 1 mm or more.

Format, paper and cover for your softcover brochure

The format, paper and cover all play a part in determining how your brochure looks, feels and can be used. We tailor the specifications to suit the content and the desired impact.

  • Choose a format that suits the content
  • Choose paper that suits the desired effect
  • Customise the softcover

What is a softcover brochure?

A softcover booklet has a flexible, wraparound cover that joins the front cover, spine and back cover to form a single, closed unit. Visually, the binding resembles that of a classic paperback.

The flexible binding makes the softcover lighter and more flexible than a hardcover, whilst the closed spine gives the book a high-quality appearance.

How is a softcover book bound?

The inner section is assembled into a book block and joined to the cover, which wraps round the entire book. At WENZEL, modern PUR adhesive technology and the preparation of the book spine ensure a strong bond between the pages and the cover.

Wire stitching

The classic solution for compact brochures. The pages are stapled along the spine, resulting in a slim printed product that is well suited to company information, product presentations, events or marketing materials.

Typical of: Information, product and event leaflets

Wire-O / Spiral binding

With Wire-O binding, the pages are held together by a wire spiral. This makes it particularly suitable for content that is frequently opened and used, such as training materials, presentation documents or work documents.

Typical of: Training courses, presentations, reference works

Stacked brochures with PUR adhesive binding, including a doctoral thesis with a blue spine

Adhesive binding

With adhesive binding, the pages are firmly glued to the cover along the spine. This produces a sturdy booklet with a closed spine – ideal for longer texts.

Typical of: Product catalogues, annual reports and comprehensive company brochures

FAQ – Having a softcover brochure printed

A softcover booklet has a flexible cover that completely encloses the inner pages. This creates a closed spine and a look similar to that of a paperback.

The cover should be chosen to suit the interior, page count and desired feel. At WENZEL, softcovers can be customised and produced with a range of cover finishes. We will work with you on a case-by-case basis to determine which option is best suited to your project.

DIN A4 and DIN A5 are versatile formats for softcover brochures; DIN A3 is also available from WENZEL. Depending on the content, you can choose between portrait and landscape orientation.

The price depends, in particular, on the format, number of pages, paper, colour scheme, print run and cover design. It is therefore only possible to determine a reliable price once the specific configuration is known.

First, specify the format, paper, page count and design, and then send your print files to WENZEL. You can customise the cover; if required, our graphics and layout service will assist you with this.

Yes, WENZEL also produces customised small print runs using digital printing. This makes softcover books suitable for both smaller projects and larger orders.

A softcover has a flexible cover, whereas a hardcover has a rigid cover. This means that a softcover is lighter and more flexible, whilst a hardcover is designed to be more sturdy and to make a particularly impressive impression.

In thread stitching, folded printed sheets are sewn together with thread to form a sturdy book block. This binding method offers good page-opening performance and high durability.

No. ‘Softcover’ refers to the type of cover, whereas ‘sewn binding’ refers to the way the inner pages are bound. A softcover book can, in principle, be bound using a variety of methods.
