How does adhesive binding work for leaflets?
In adhesive binding, the individual pages are assembled into a block and glued together along the spine. Depending on the method used, this results in a booklet with a neat, closed spine.
To ensure good adhesion, the spine is prepared before gluing. In our own gluing process, for example, we roughen the paper block beforehand so that the adhesive can bond more effectively with the pages.
What is the ideal length for a perfect-bound booklet?
Adhesive-bound booklets are particularly suitable for projects with a larger amount of content and where a book-like appearance is desired. The appropriate page count depends, amongst other things, on the paper, format and intended use. At WENZEL, hot-glue binding is available for brochures of up to 200 pages.
Which adhesive binding is best suited to your brochure?
Our adhesive-bound brochures are available in three versions: as traditional hot-glue binding with a transparent film as a cover, as Softcover PUR with a flexible cover or as Hardcover with a hardback cover. Which option is best depends on the length, intended use and desired impact of your brochure.
Adhesive binding or another type of binding – which is best for your brochure?
Not every brochure has the same requirements in terms of binding and finish. The number of pages, intended use and desired appearance determine which option is most suitable.

Wire stitching
The classic solution for compact brochures. The pages are stapled along the spine, resulting in a slim printed product that is well suited to company information, product presentations, events or marketing materials.
Typical of: Information, product and event leaflets

Wire-O / Spiral binding
With Wire-O binding, the pages are held together by a wire spiral. This makes it particularly suitable for content that is frequently opened and used, such as training materials, presentation documents or work documents.
Typical of: Training courses, presentations, reference works

Hardcover
With hardback binding, the brochure is given a sturdy cover and takes on the appearance of a book. It is particularly suitable for high-quality and prestigious content.
Typical of: High-quality presentations, case studies, and corporate communications

Softcover
With softcover binding, a flexible cover encloses the inner pages and forms a closed spine. It is particularly suitable for high-quality, book-like brochures.
Typical of: Corporate, image and presentation brochures

Calendar binding
With calendar binding, the pages are bound in such a way that they are easy to turn and suitable for regular use. It is particularly suitable for calendars, planners and overviews.
Typical of: Calendars, planners, overviews

FAQ – Having a brochure printed with adhesive binding
In adhesive binding, the individual pages are firmly glued together along the spine. This produces a sturdy booklet with a closed spine and a high-quality, book-like appearance.
Wire-stapling produces a slim, easy-to-leaf-through finish and is particularly suitable for compact brochures. For very large printed materials, however, a different binding method, such as perfect binding, may be more appropriate.
The advantages include the closed spine, the high-quality finish and the fact that it is suitable for thicker booklets. Compared to a spiral-bound booklet, a perfect-bound booklet usually cannot be opened as wide.
The choice of suitable paper depends on the number of pages, the intended use and the desired feel. The cover and inner pages should also be coordinated. WENZEL can advise you on the right choice.
When designing the layout, the format, page count, binding margin and cover should be taken into account from the outset. In particular, content close to the spine should be positioned at a sufficient distance from the binding.
The format and paper can be tailored to suit each individual project. As well as standard formats, WENZEL can also supply custom formats; the appropriate paper quality depends on the intended use and the desired effect.
Production time depends on the print run, format, paper, number of pages and finishing. At WENZEL, express production is also possible by arrangement. We will agree a specific deadline with you on a case-by-case basis.
You can conveniently submit your requirements and print files to WENZEL online. The format, paper, print run and binding can be agreed in advance; you then upload your print-ready file.
In PUR adhesive binding, a polyurethane adhesive is used to bind the book block. WENZEL uses PUR adhesive for certain adhesive-bound finishes; we will determine which option is best suited to your project based on the paper, page count and intended use.
