Why choose a wire-stitched brochure?
Wire-stapling is a tried-and-tested binding method for compact brochures. The pages are stapled along the spine and bound together to form a slim, functional printed product.
Easy to flick through
The leaflet is easy to open and quick to read.
Customisable
The format, paper, colour scheme and finish can be tailored to suit your needs.
Format, paper and cover for your stapled brochure
The format, paper and cover have just as much of an impact on the overall effect of your brochure as the binding. Choose the finish to suit the content, intended use and desired feel.
- Combining the inner pages and the cover effectively
- Choose a format that suits the content
- Choose paper based on its appearance and intended use

What is wire-stitching or staple-binding for brochures?
In wire-stapling, folded printed sheets are stacked one inside the other and bound along the fold with wire staples. This produces the typical stapled booklet without a glued spine.
In brochure printing, terms such as staple binding, saddle stitching or wire-o binding are also used to describe this. These are different names used to describe the same – or closely related – principle of binding along the spine of a brochure.
How backstitch stitching works
The printed and folded sheets are inserted into one another in the correct order. They are then stapled along the fold. The wire staples hold the inner pages and, where applicable, the cover together. The result is a stapled booklet that requires no additional adhesive spine.
What page count is wire-stitching suitable for?
Wire-stapling is particularly suitable for compact to medium-sized booklets. The appropriate page count depends, amongst other things, on the format, paper and structure of the product. For larger projects, adhesive binding, softcover binding or other binding methods may be more suitable.
Wire-stapling or another type of binding – which is best for your brochure?
Wire-stapling is particularly suitable for compact stapled booklets. However, depending on the number of pages, intended use and desired effect, a different binding method may be more appropriate.

Wire-O / Spiral binding
With Wire-O binding, the pages are bound together using a wire spiral. This makes the booklet easy to open and makes it particularly suitable for frequently used documents.
Typical of: Training courses, presentations, reference works

Adhesive binding
With adhesive binding, the pages are firmly glued to the cover along the spine. This produces a sturdy booklet with a closed spine – ideal for longer texts.
Typical of: Product catalogues, annual reports and comprehensive company brochures

Hardcover
With hardback binding, the brochure is given a sturdy cover and takes on the appearance of a book. It is particularly suitable for high-quality and prestigious content.
Typical of: High-quality presentations, case studies, and corporate communications

Softcover
With softcover binding, a flexible cover encloses the inner pages and forms a closed spine. It is particularly suitable for high-quality, book-like brochures.
Typical of: Corporate, image and presentation brochures

Calendar binding
With calendar binding, the pages are bound in such a way that they are easy to turn and suitable for regular use. It is particularly suitable for calendars, planners and overviews.
Typical of: Calendars, planners, overviews

FAQ – Having brochures printed with wire-stitching
In wire-stapling, the folded pages of a booklet are fastened together at the spine using wire staples. This creates a compact, sturdy binding without a glued spine.
Wire-stapling produces a slim, easy-to-leaf-through finish and is particularly suitable for compact brochures. For very large printed materials, however, a different binding method, such as perfect binding, may be more appropriate.
Wire-stitching does not require a glued spine and is particularly suitable for brochures with a manageable number of pages. However, the most suitable binding method depends on the number of pages, the paper, the intended use and the desired appearance.
Production time depends on the print run, format, paper, finish and current workload. At WENZEL, express production is also possible by arrangement. For a specific deadline, we recommend sending us a brief enquiry.
The choice of paper depends on the number of pages, the intended use and the desired feel. The paper you choose for an image or product brochure may therefore differ from that used for information or training materials. WENZEL will be happy to advise you on your choice.
The maximum number of pages depends in particular on the paper thickness, format and finish. All inner pages must be divisible by 4. The thicker the paper and the larger the volume, the more likely it is that a different binding method may be more suitable. We would be happy to assess the most suitable layout for your project.
You can conveniently submit your requirements and print files to WENZEL online. The format, paper, print run and any other requirements can be agreed in advance; you can then upload your print-ready file. If you have any questions, our team will be happy to assist you personally.
