Letterpress
Letterpress printing is a refined craft that has become something of a rarity. „Embossed printing“ is a similar term that describes quite well what we actually do: we use a printing plate to emboss the desired design onto the paper. Although „paper“ isn’t quite the right word: cardstock weighing 600g per square metre is probably a better description. The maximum format is DIN A6, i.e. ‘postcard size’ (10.5 x 14.8 cm).
Letterpress using a maximum of two colours
The first step is to develop the plate for one side of the print (see also our video on this website or simply Click here to watch the letterpress video). We then mount the printing plate and start the printing process, usually using black ink. A new printing plate must then be prepared for the reverse side, and the cardboard must be aligned precisely with the front. A second colour is possible, but this is a very labour-intensive process. However, we only offer three or more colours in very exceptional cases, as it is technically difficult to „hit“ all the positions precisely. Basically, it’s but on request, yes.

The letterpress process is not merely defined by the nostalgic, romantic aura that surrounds this old technique. The printed materials also differ strikingly in both appearance and feel from modern business cards produced using digital printing. With letterpress, a relief is created that can be felt and seen, pressed inwards (essentially the reverse principle to relief printing). The significantly thicker material is, of course, also noticeable: instead of thin cardstock, such as 300g paper, we use 600g/sqm cardstock, as described above. The colour-edged sides give the business card an elegant and eye-catching touch, if desired.
How much does letterpress printing cost?
How much does a car cost? There’s no one-size-fits-all answer to that. It depends on which material you choose (we offer cardboard in various colours), whether you want a single-colour or multi-colour print, how many you’d like, and so on. So there are always a number of questions to clarify beforehand. So please feel free to get in touch with us at any time; we’ll be happy to provide you with a personalised quote.rebum.
